my dealer tried to explain this to me when I bought the car. The best he could do was to say that when you hit the Recirc button it puts the AC into what used to be called MaxAC on other vehicles. He also said to NOT put it into Recirc until the cool air is coming out of the vents...............he didn't really have a reason

Just a thought I was always told to turn off A/C before turning off engine, so when starting engine it would have the drag of the A/C pump. That could be why it goes back to recirc.

In a word, no! It goes back to fresh not recirc. Which, I guess, would turn off the compressor if you didn't have the ac button on when you turned the car off but take it from an MVAC tech, the drag of the compressor will cause no starting problems unless you have other problems with your vehicle.

I wrote GM regarding this - asking if the computer could be re-programmed to default to this function. They replied NO - and suggested that if you want the car to be cool when you enter it, to turn on the air prior to parking and use the remote start to cool the car prior to your entering.
I considered the answer to by like similiar to the answeres we get from government - lets dance around the issue rather than improve the product.

In th eolder GM models if you recall, the AC used to have an AC button and a MAX button. The MAX button really was what is now called the recirculate button. It DOES turn on the compressor in ALL GM products, it is the old MAX button. That is why it feels cooler, it is using it's own already conditioned air rather than bringing in new air from the outside. When it was the old MAX button it used to automattically turn your fan control to HIGH speed, but this has been eliminated.

What if I drive a 5-speed? No auto-start there.
