Happy with my GMPP extended warranty

I purchased my certified HHR last year, it had 35000 miles that time. My dealer successfully persuaded me buying the GMPP extended warranty of $0 deductible, which costs an additional $1,600. It's gonna cover my HHR to 85000 miles, I am sure the real cost of repair will exceed what I paid.

A few weeks ago I went to Belle Tire to get two new tires, they told me the two front struts were leaking, and quoted me $350 for replacement. I knew it's time to see how the warranty works. At the same time, my HHR has two minor problems: the right turn signal won't cancel sometimes; and the vacuum blower is making noise sometimes at low speed. I won't send in my car for repair just because of these two problems, if I don't have the warranty. But now, let's get them all done in one trip.

I went to see my dealer one day, they told me they needed to check to confirm the problems. If these problems did exist, they will repair them all at no cost for me; if these problems did not exist, they will charge me for checkup. They confirmed all problems, and fixed them all.

I don't know how much I would have to pay without the warranty, I'd guess it's around $400 at least. So I already got a quarter of my investment back. Not bad. I am happy with that, I am also happy with the smooth, hassle free warranty coverage.

These are the bets you hate to win. It is good if you recover more than you paid for the warranty. But is bad luck to have have to collect.

Not sure which is best.

That's true.. However I think I would prefer having the extended warranty & not needing it, as compared to visa-versa..

just my .02

I just have to look at how often I have had to put over $1,000 in a car. To this point in 12 cars I did not have to put even a grand in all of them. The money I spent mostly was on things I wanted to do and regular up keep not covered under warranty. If I had to put $3K in my next 3 cars I would still be ahead money with out the warranty.

It just comes down to what is right for you and what will make you sleep better.
