Heated seat retrofit

Is it possible to just by the 2 seat heater elements and retrofit into a non-heated seat? Basically, does the harness already have the wires to plug & play?

Most aftermarket heaters won't work with factory switches according to Check Corp. and other aftermarket companies as their switches carry a heavier electrical load than is required by factory units triggered through the bcm.

the "heater" is just a wire running through some material, not real rocket science, but I guess you could check the power requirements for the thermostat.

It doesn't need to be rocket science, an electric iron isn't rocket science but it draws more amps than a micro switch designed for a 5v trigger can handle. My point was the 2 seat heater companies I use in my shop say that factory switches on bcm controlled cars will not take the load.

You could probably use the factory switches to control a set of relays to power aftermarket seats. I would take some creative wiring though.....

I agree with the idea of micro switches not being able to handle the current of heater elements. However, in the case of my 2009 HHR FSM there is no connection between the BCM and the factory heated seats. The Heated seat modules are totally separate from the BCM and separately fused as well.

I believe this has been answered in another post(I won't be doing the searching) and there is the addition of two modules(one for each seat) and replacement of the HVAC control. I doubt very much if the vehicle has the wiring harness plug ins for this addition.

So my approach would be to go after market.

No clue how they are controlled from the factory, just quasi quoting the aftermarket caution labels. I install a few sets a year, the switch gear is small, and very factory like in function. Factory switches would cool, and as metioned attainable with relays.
