JX3, I had that happen to me once. I then found that the
cord i used for my Ipod was down in in front of the gear
shift just enough to pinch thye cable and once removed,
the gear shift would go forward and release the key.

SHEESHHS!!

Good luck...

Man, I thought you were onto something there! It seemed that because I have a cord for my Ipod and haven't mentioned it, that had to be the cause. But alas.....to no avail.

That's strike two, maybe the third will be the charm.(hopefully )

I did not say, but what I was surprised at is how little
forward the shifter had to move in order to free up the
key. I was really surprised and the shifter did not move
very much at all...

Maybe if you wiggle the shifter or force it a little harder
to the front, Maybe...

Again, good luck...

Well, for no apparent reason, Dory just decided to give up the key. :surprised Don't know how/why, but as long as it doesn't happen again.
Thanks Capt. and galladanb, appreciate the efforts!

Does the key look bent or damaged in anyway.
Also maybe you should try the second key for a bit. see if it will happen to it to.
Good to see it is out anyway.

Glad to hear you got the key out. My boyfriend and I have been racking our brains trying to figure out something to help. I agree with BlackHHR...I would use the other key and take the problem one to the dealer and tell them what happened and I would think they would give you a new one. They might also have some insight on what happened as well.

Thanks for everyone's concern. The key itself wasn't the problem, the ignition switch would not return to the lock position, it would only turn between accesory and starting the car. I have retried the key over 2 dozen times by now, and (thankfully) can not get it to repeat.
