HHR to end 2012?
I too heard they were going to build the Cruze and Buick Verano. I suspect the GMC Granite may also find its way there too.
Remember the plant also lost Hummer production too. They have a lot of open line to fill there.

I just got my 2011 HHR a few days ago
My friend just got one too. They are scarce now. The dealer told me I got the last one and that they sold 5 the previous week. People like them because they are good on gas. I so missed having a 5 speed.

And I chose an auto tranny.. Shifting can get boring after 40 years or so...
There are alot fewer around here than there were in Feb when I bought mine.
The few new LS's that are left are cheaper than the 1-2 y o used rentals.
2 Chev dealers haven't had any all year.

more on Ramos Arizpe
I read online that the some assembly line in Ramos Arizpe has made cars with different underpinnings. Back in the days of the Citation, they made cars with different chassis and they were all mixed together. So, they could easily make Cruze, Verano, and Granite on the same line. This would actually be easier, since they are all on the Delta II platform, as is the Volt. I suspect Volt's limited production will all be in USA, for political reasons.
I just found out about the passing of the HHR last week. I am really surprised how majorly depressed this has made me. My 2007 HHR was the very first brand-spankin'-new car I have ever bought in my life. Went through an auto-broker who got it through fleet sales and I got it $3,000 below MSRP. Since it was my first brand new car, I got ALL the bells and whistles I've ever wanted - the 2LT, leather seats, upgraded stereo - stuck with manual transmission though because I wouldn't have it any other way during Cleveland winters.
My baby (Goldie - she's a sandstone metallic) still has until May 2012 before she is paid off and I was all ready to get a new one. Now I'm going to have to hang on to her for as long as I can. I really don't think any other car will ever make me as happy as this car has. And she STILL gets looks - and it seems like BMW and Lexus owners are the ones who give her the most looks and ask the most questions about her!
What is most disappointing was the complete lack of marketing Chevy did for this car. I almost NEVER saw it advertised in any of their commercials, nor in any of their newspaper ads. If you're not going to market it, then obviously it's not going to sell. They really did a disservice to it by not backing it as they should.
And after reading this entire thread, I'm just even more depressed.

to the forum BigRedEO!As to the passing of the HHR from the model lineup, I wouldn't be depressed. You can count yourself as one of the people who "gets" the HHR, and not just the driver of some anonymous "Everycar" like a Camry or Accord.
With proper care, there is no reason that Goldie won't be rolling along looking and running like new 20 years from now, can you say the same for an unloved and boring 2007 Everycar LX?
As they say, all good things must come to an end, the HHR is dead....long live the HHR!

The HHR did have some marketing but for the most it was one of GM's cars that did not need the marketing as it sold well as it was. The SS did need some marketing as it had none. But this was at the time of the Chapter 11 GM was much worse off than most people really understand. I mean to the point if the Goverment did not bail them out they would have not survived. There was no one willing to even try to buy them out as they were just too far in debt.
As for saving the car don't just drive it, enjoy it and use it up. Just sitting often is worse on the car and often the owner never gets the good out of it. Trust me I have one car now I don't drive as much as I should and it is going to waste sitting.
Every time I think I will never find a car I like better than one I have something better always comes along. GM has some really cool stuff coming and will be built to todays standards.
As it stands now the HHR will be a bright light in Chevy history at a very dark time.
What ^^^ said. 2013/14 is going to be a whopping year for GM if they follow through with even 1/2 of their planned line up. I also agree that the HHR had a good run, but some cars are just limited run cars to fill a slot or to fill a want, the HHR was just that. Something will come about in the HHR's place eventually.
