This company says a 5 micron filter should be used with direct injection system

Wouldn't you like added filtration before the high pressure pump and injectors ?
What's the micron filter of the sock in the tank?
Oh I know, when the engine starts to run with a miss use Seafoam, that will fix it.

2.2 and 2.4 are NOT direct injection, no HPFP.

The fuel tank is plastic, no rust/corrosion. The only dirt in the tank is what gets past the filters on the fuel dispensing pump; most have 2 before the nozzle. Why worry about micron sized particles?
Underground storage tanks are plastic. The gasoline is filtered at the tank farm then at the pump how many more times do you want?

Yes extra filtration would be fine, but when I changed out my fuel pump , I saw directly the fuel sock wasn’t dirty looking and there was no debris or grit in that area of the fuel pickup cup. I purchase top tier fuel same station last 91/2 years, no problems with fuel out driving the country side

Interesting, my 1998 S-10 had an in-line fuel filter just under the drivers door in the C-channel frame rail. Easy to change.

It would be very easy to add into the fuel supply line , just a couple of fuel connections and a fuel filter, in-line under the hood, so you wouldn’t cut the metal lines. Don’t forget the crimp on clamps
