I looks comparable in size, similar looking to the Equinox/Traverse (both of which I like), and I vaguely see some of the HHR lines in the new bodywork. It's definitely not for everyone...wouldn't mind having one to park next to the HHR :)

Automakers used to have very distinct styling differences. Now everyone wants to make everything look like everybody else's vehicles.

The HHR is the only vehicle GM has that I like the styling of other than the Corvette and I'm too old and stiff to get into one. I was looking at new pickups in 2008 to replace my 89 C1500 with 250,000 miles. GM has gone to the same high boxy style as the others make. I thought about the smaller Colorado but it is just too ugly to consider. I finally found a used two wheel drive full size 2002, which are very scarce in Wisconsin. I wanted a two wheel drive Blazer in the 95 or newer style in 2000 and the only way to get one would have been to order a new one. Everybody seems to think they need four wheel drive, even in cars. It is harder to add weight for more traction in front wheel drive cars and they don't have the traction that my 78 Eldorado had but most places keep the roads cleaned up.

why can't GM leave well enough alone? Instead of restyling the HHR, why not offer more retro options. Might be part of the reason they just had to pay back a "bailout" .

While Chrysler has failed to find a way to update or replace the retro-styled PT Cruiser, we can definitely see this as a forthcoming replacement to the Chevrolet HHR. The Volt MPV5 is slightly larger than HHR, but fills a similar market niche.
Updating retro is an oxymoron. Ford attempted to 'update' the retro Mustang and completely ruined it IMHO. Who says you need to update styling anyway? the original VW Type 1 (Beetle) sold well without major styling changes for almost 60 years until safety and emission realities finally spelled the end.

Contrary to what we believe we are in the minority.

Retro is polarizing as we already know with the HHR. Either you love it or hate it.

With the more generic styling is is better accpeted buy more people and is less polarizing. The sad truth boring sells.

Cars like the Camry, Caravan and other dull cars sell not based on cool styling.

The truth is even though the HHR sold 100,000 units a year average it could and should have done better. 20-30% went to fleet sales like Enterprise. The Orlando priced right will should sell in greater numbers with out no profit fleet sales.

The HHR was a gamble and while GM did not lose it also could have done better in total sales in this class.

Just look at the sales of the new Nox and see what a well priced, quality CUV can do. GM has added a new line to build the vehicle to meet demand.

My local dealer was able to get 14 Nox in last week on a Tuesday and sold every one of them by Friday. Note they are getting near sticker price on them with no incentives. That means money for GM and the dealer.

All other locl dealers are doing the same here.

While I will not be buying a Orlando I understand why they are doing this. You can't always build cars with you heart you also have to make a buisness case. THat sometimes kills the cars we feel are cool as not everyone feels the same.

The new Chevy Cruze will be and already being sold world wide. It is a very good car but not a very fun or cool. But it will be a very profitable one. The Orlando will also be shared in the same way.

If they want to update the HHR. Restyle it to look like a 55 Chevy Nomad. That would be an update over a 49 Suburban - and it would be really cool...!

I always liked this idea too.

Just now it would not play well in other countries that this new platform will be used in.

The way of the Global car is here.

The Buick Lacrosse is a good example The styling is from China, the suspension engineering is from Germany and the Driveline and interior is from North America. Same for the Cruze accept replace China with Korea.

Retro is on its way out. Even the Mini is trying to reinvent itself with a crossover and speedster. They are trying new thinks to keep it fresh as even the best selling retro car is headed for a PT ending if they do not make the move.
