Hi!
I remember gas for $3.00 a gallon or less...vaguely. Around here (southern California), no grade of gas is less than $3.35 or so now. Premium is easily $3.65 or more. Ahh!
The use of 89-93 octane gas is not necessary in an 87 octane engine and really is of no benefit to your engine. Moreover high octane gas can be detrimental to your engine, injection system and emission systems. All you are really doing is padding the wallets of the oil companies. There are many web pages that say the same thing. I was not able to find a GM link but here are a couple that you can take for what its worth. Back in the good old days we needed higher octane to stop spark knock/pinging, but computers and fuel injection take care of that now. High octane gas is good for performance engines such as SS's and Corvettes but will not enhance the performance of 87 octane engines. Everyone will do as they please but I say save the bucks for a beer and burn the 87 octane.

I will post pics once i get my new grill. I prefer the stull grill to the stocker so i planned on changing that from the start. been looking at these for awhile now.
CHVYMGR, the 2.4 recommends premium is why i was asking. The 2.2 requires 87 octane.

My posting was a reply to the people with the 2.2L. You are correct that the 2.4 "recommends" 91 octane or higher, but they also state 87 octane can also be used, but your acceleration might be slightly reduced and there is the possibility of spark knock. I would put only high octane in the new SS or any vehicle with any type of boost kit!
