High RPM's

I have a 2011 LT with the 2.4 and here lately I have noticed that rpm's have been running higher than normal. When set the cruise at 55 it runs 2000-2200 and when I set cruise at 65 it runs at 2500, is this normal?

aboard!

A 10mph increase in cruising speed will result in a higher engine speed, you didn't state whether you have a 5-spd or an automatic transmission.

With the 4T-45E automatic transmission, and stock size tires, you should see approximately 2,460 rpm at 65mph, give or take.

With the 5-spd transmission, and stock size tires, you should see approximately 2,350 rpm at 65 mph, give or take.

Of course there are variables like tire wear, speedometer error, and tachometer error to consider.

So unless you have the 5-spd transmission and you're noticing signs of clutch slippage, there's no real need for concern.

Agree with the above, but,...........

You stated, "lately and , "higher than normal". So what were you experiencing in speed and RPM's previously?

Hi, Welcome to the site!!! Reds Guy
Now hhhhmmm, just a guess, but it is cold out and you most likely have the defrost on which engages the AC which raises the RPM.
Try moving the heater selector knob to dash and footwell and see if the RPM's drop

OB, I don't think having the A/C or heat on at speed will affect the RPM's. I think just at idle.

Come to think of it, he mentioned speed s well. Don't think it would affect the speed either.

But as I mentioned in my first post, we really need to know what he experienced previously to give any valid opinions.

Up here when its cold out and I turn on my defrost the RPM's pickup a bit even at 65 mph and at idle , so just a suggestion based on experience

Don't think you have anything to worry about. Its normal range.
