How To Disable OnStar

I need some info on how to disable the OnStar system on my HHR. I have read that part of the system is on the right side in the back under the window, but I have no clue on how to get the panel off or what to look for. I also read about pulling a fuse. I would like to install an auto dimming mirror in the future, so what ever I do to disable the OnStar system, I still need power for my mirror.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Remove the interior right rear quarter panel and unplug the VCIM. You will lose bluetooth also if you have it.

Any way to keep the bluetooth but ditch the onstar?

Remove the lines to the antena?

Or would you have to get a after market radio to do this?

Why in the world would anyone want to disable OnStar? If you don't pay for it, it won't work.

One word I'm afraid....paranoia.

Too many folks are concerned about "Big Brother" tracking them, when they have to realize that even though the OnStar might be unhooked, any wireless device that's powered up can be tracked like their cell phone/i-Pad/Blackberry.

Actually they can remotely turn it on to.

I just prefer to not make it easy for them.

OnStar has decided to rescind their planned changes in usage, which was to include monitoring equipped vehicles even after the owner opts out.

Or maybe they are just lying to prevent a groundswell of abandoned contracts. In any case, if someone is intent on finding you even if you do not want them to, they do not need OnStar's help.

OnStar is the least of your worries if you have a smart phone.
