Using the SEARCH tool at the top of the page looking for "60 mph rpm" gave several references - including the info: "2100-2200 rpms at 60 mph".

I rarely feel mine shifting at all. You really are not supposed to be able to notice if you are driving like the Driver Ed teacher wanted you to.

 

Ah Ha, when getting up to speed (usually 70) to set the cruise, I let off the gas and then the rpm's drop. So maybe that's when it goes into OD?

Maybe if you are standing on the pedal, most people accelerate a bit lighter. Overdrive will kick in around 40 MPH if you are not accelerating hard.

Or, maybe you are playing games.

 

This brings up something I've wondered about. when getting on the freeway, I give it a reasonable amount of pedal to get going, but it seems like it takes forever unless I almost floor it, then it kicks down and I finally get some power. It almost seems llike a dead spot in the accelerator.

(probably seems slow since my other "car" is a 65 Chevy Van with a 292/TH350 that doesn't need much gas at all to get up to speed. Of course it only gets 13 mpg solo, 10 towing).

 

My 2011 LT has a sort of flat spot that irritates me. I think it's the VVT since the "old" 2008 was not as bad.

But, yours is a 2008. Mine had a little bit of a spot, but nowhere near as noticeable as the 2011.

 

My 2010 does the same thing. The transmission is a little reluctant to downshift until you push the pedal past a certain point. My old malibu with the 2.2 felt the same way. Chances are the flat spot being described is the engine rpm being too low for adequate acceleration when you step on the go pedal. It feels like a dead spot in the pedal, but in reality the engine is not turning fast enough to be in its powerband until the transmission finally downshifts. This transmission upshifts rather quickly, keeping the engine rpm low for increased FE.

You might want to try a light stab of the accelerator instead of a gradual press of it if you're looking for better acceleration merging onto the highway. Not to the floor of course, but perhaps a stab of the throttle halfway or so to try to convince the trans to kickdown a bit sooner.

 

This A.M. I tried "I" in traffic. That got rid of much of that flat spot, so I'm thinking it shifts into 4th quicker than I thought.
