I think RV's main problem is who he's dealing with, Progressive comes on with low rates and the goofy woman in their commercials, but when it comes to dealing with them for claims and disputes....well lets just say I have another lawyer friend with the Progressive lady's face on his dartboard.

Actually, I have been really pleased with Progressive until now. We have had 2 insurance claims on 2 different vehicles where squirrels chewed up wires and tubing in the engine compartment and under the car. The last one was very questionable in our minds about whether it was rodent damage and I told them that when I made the claim but they didn't bat an eyelash and covered the claim. Luckily these 2 claims didn't affect our rates. The first one was $1,000 and the second was only $400. We have our boat, motorhome, motorcycle and 2 cars insured with them and it's been very pleasant so far but like I said we have had very little interaction with them. Unfortunately I have to wait till Monday to call but I really appreciate all the advice. Thanks.

The best insurance companies

Per Consumer Reports, AMICA mutual and USAA are consistently the best auto insurance companies in the USA. I have been insured with AMICA continuously since I learned to drive in 1974. My father was a picky SOB, but never changed from AMICA. Unfortunately, AMICA has been compulsive about who they will insure (because they rarely drop). They refused to insure my stepson a few years ago and referred him to.....Progressive! They are a bit less anal now, and my daughter was able to get insurance from AMICA despite totalling her vehicle while driving when chatting on her cell phone.

I was with Erie for 22 years before marrying my lovely wife, but because Michelle is a Type-1 Diabetic, Erie refused to add her to the policy because of an "exclusionary medical condition".

So after shopping around, and being turned down by quite a few underwriters because of her Diabetes, we ended up with State Farm and are quite happy with them.

Bizarre! I have a friend with a panel as well and he got told by his insurance (geico!) that they were discontinuing coverage because of high safety issues and that they had been classified as a commercial vehicle. Now isn't that some BS? I talked to my insurance company. Mine is the regular 4 door with rear gate, and is classified as a "wagon", so no problem. I don't understand why these idiots can't get their info straight and be consistant with their information.

Here in NC, State Farm classifies the HHR's as "SUV/Light Truck", that includes the Panel.

I have State Farm here in ohio and both my SS and my wifes 2LT are considered station wagon's. As far as Progressive goes, I have heard alot of bad stuff about them and would never consider trying to get insurance from them.
