Looking to buy an HHR

Hello...First off, I'd like to thank everyone for this forum. It's an incredible resource of information for all things relating to the HHR.
I've been looking to buy an HHR and have been checking out a few. Recently ran into a couple of 2006's and didn't really consider them because I've never thought it was a good idea to buy a first year anything. But, now I'm wondering if that's really sound reasoning or not...So....I guess, my question is, Is there any real reason to shy away from a clean, well maintained '06 with all recalls completed...Thanks

Hello & Welcome- I would not be shy of a nice '06. Many brag that they have Year One HHRs'.

Mine is an '08 however. But I still have fun with mine, got it back in '09.

Thanks Sleeper....I appreciate your input. Does anyone else have any opinions about '06 reliability as compared to later years. Sleeper!...I love the looks of the panel version.

Nothing wrong with the 06's but there are a couple things to consider.
They are 12 years old. A used one is most likely to have higher mileage and it's unknown how the previous owner(s) took care of it.
The 06's with the 2.2 L engine was a 1 year thing as far as the engine. The 07's, 08's used a different version of the 2.2. Later models got even another version when variable valve timing was added.

If you had to ever do an engine swap in a 06 (hopefully not) you would have to use that older version engine.

Firemangeorge....You make some very valid points here and I was unaware that the '06 2.2L engine was all by itself. All things to be considered...Thank you.

I have a 2006 LT 2,4
It is operated in difficult weather and road conditions. The temperature is -30С / + 30С and a lot of snow.
And it has no elite service and maintenance.
Nevertheless, the car is cheerful and strong. He served me for 9 years, and if I want - will serve another 9 years or more. Now the mileage is about 280,000 km.
A real Spartan. In addition, exotic appearance.
