I got flashed!

Hey Guit, I had the same thing happen to me on my last road trip. We drove from Alberta to Utah over night and drove through Washington (I-15) just after dusk (we were in Great Falls when it started to get dark.) The opposing traffic on I-15 flashed us over and over, it's either the lights are very bright or people's eyes are very sensitive in Montana

I don't really recall ever getting flashed on the highways or city streets up here but it may have happened a hand full of times.

No Flasher

I've never been flashed at, and I was kind of thinking my headlights were aimed a little high. The HHR has very sharp cutoff headlights and it's better to get the light on the road than into space and other driver's eyes. After all you still have high beams.

If your getting flashed do everyone a favor and lower 'em a notch or two.

Yeah It happened to us a few times on I-15 from Helena to Great Falls but then on highway 87 from Great Falls to Havre it was crazy I went on a short drive on 87 last night (about 20 miles) with just me in the car and a half tank of gas and I still got flashed, but like I said before I brought in in the shop and I checked the alignment myself and its perfect, Besides I'm sure it was all those Canadians traveling to the states that were a little too sensitive

Hey Calgary....

On that trip, didn't you have the car loaded with luggage and 4 adults??? That would change the geometrics of the rear suspension drastically (rear end down, front end up). I think that was probably your problem !! (and maybe SOME of the other members, as well).

Lots of complaints when on road trips. Do you still get flashed during everyday driving? If not, perform this test before your next road trip:

1) Park your HHR (unloaded), approximately 5-feet from a garage door or wall.

2) Turn on the headlights and using a tape measure, note the height of the bottom edge of the beam.

3) Turn headlights off.

4) Load up your HHR with everything for your trip.

5) Turn on your headlights and remeasure.

A difference of 1/2" or more at 5-feet can turn into a substantial height change of the beam at 50-yards. Something to consider...

I have been flashed a handful of times around the city when the vehicle is not weighed down.

It may have been due to the weight in the back but it might be the folks out in Montana. I do recall that on the trip down to Utah we were flashed by almost every car in Montana but noone in Idaho or Utah had a problem with the lights, kinda strange.

When I get flashed, I just flash them back to show them what REAL brights look like. I had this problem in my 1993 Ford Ranger as well.

I adjusted mine down 1 turn on each side and still see great and get a lot less flashes when loaded... er the car not me!!

There is a thread with a picture of where the vert adjusters, Hint.... They are below the gas hood supports... Takes an allen head wrench..

There is a "X" on the headlight you can also use to measure during alignment and Mike's is a good way to check the loaded and unloaded (this time in the back of your HHR)..
