A National Run
A National Run
We, members of the newly forming HHR club, and members of thhs forum's mid-central region, have shown interest in a national run and are now looking for people from other geographic areas to see if we can make this thing gather some strength. As we are based in the midwest we have checked areas in this area including the Wisconsin Dells. The thought behind the Dells and a resort is that if people were driving long distances to make a run like this, that it would likely be a vacation destination, so provide a full service event providing things for a family and for all age groups. We made some inquiries and have found a fantastic resort. The resort is incredible, full service, with an excellent staff, remarkably clean, they boast the world's largest indorr waterpark, with things for everyone from toddlers on. There is also an outdoor waterpark and an outdoor pool at the corporate building (all of the water areas have jacuzzis providing an evening hangout to relax from all of the activities...hahaha.) Other immenities include a full service spa in the case you would like to pamper yourself or spouse, daily activities for the children, numerous restaurants and food vendors from a coffee shop to a full service high end restaurant and a nightclub where the bartenders perform "flair" during the evenings, (they flaired a margarita for my wife, she had never had a margarita and likely will not be having another...she isn't a drinker anyway..hahaha). There is a multi-screen cinema running first run movies and a 27 hole professional golf course. The resort has agreed to provide a 100,00 square foot parking lot for the show and shine and vendor areas. The Wisconsin Dells area provides enough recreational activies to interest everyone from miniature golf courses (we could have a mini-golf tournament during the run...lol), batting cages, go-cart tracks ( I see a championship race evolving) the "ducks" WWII amphibious vehicle tours of the area lake and river and 1500 horsepower jet boat with stunts !!! There are a couple of full amusement parks, not the size or scope of a SIx Flags, but still large enough to provide hours of fun. There is shopping if you experience a "shopping jones", in the resort, in the downtown area of the Dells (for souvenirs) and in a new (mid-2006) outlet shopping mall about a mile from the resort. There are restaurants of all types, with many of them catering to groups. A large percentage of these activities are willing to provide group rates as well. There are other lodging choices avaliable for those who would choose a different experience or price...The rooms are actually suites with the first room having a queen sized bed, night stands, dresser a television, in the next area are two overstuffed chairs end table, lamps, fireplace television sofa that converts to a queen bed, a dining table and chairs, a bar with chairs and a full equipped kitchen, all rooms have a balcony, this suite would be avaliable to a reduced rate of $179.00 per night. there are adjoining rooms on each side with the same immenitities minus the kitchen for 159.00 per night, these rates include the waterpark. There are other lodgng choices avaliable for those lookin for a different experience, from camping to lesser expersive yet very nice hotels. The Delss area is a tourist destination so most lodging is very nice. Of course there will be cruises, a show and shine and all kinds of HHR events the entire extended weekend...
Okay, I have also checked a less expensive alternative in Peoria, Illinois, with a very central location, great accomodations and numerous activities, comparable to the activities mentioned for the Dells. This too would be loaded with HHR based activities as well as fun for all ages and tastes !!!
Alright, there are the first plans, please understand that choosing these areas would allow the group to put this event together and hone thier skills, subsequebt runs could move all over the nation, with destinations such as Colorado, the east coast etc as great locations for the future. The choice of the midwest is in no means an attempt to be a competiton or to exclude any geographic areas...
lease feel free to exprese your interest or ideas, and please keep it adult and positive so this thread and the run can evolve into something a large number of us can enjoy. The group will take your suggestions seriuosly and if we can't implement them for this run, we can try to incorporate then in future runs. This run is also not meant to deter any group in another area from putting on a large or "National" run. We are just gaging interest and looking to involve other interesed parties...
Sorry for the length of this post and I will tr to keep things less wordy in the future...Thanks for taking the time time for reading it and for your interest...

I think I could probably manage something like that. I could meet up with the folks from the west coast and we could caravan out there, picking up others along the way. I did some map checking and it's a bit over a 16 hour drive from Denver. Suggested route would be across I-80 to I-35 and I figure probably stopping for the night around the Des Moines area. We could pick up more HHR's there and head to Wisconsin Dells. Seems workable to me and it would be great to meet some of the folks on the board.
Let's see how it all works out. Any projected dates for this? Maybe mid-summer or something? I'll follow this thread and see how things develop.
