My '07 2.2 liter (base engine) w/ automatic averages 27 around town warm weather, 25 around town cold weather. Pure highway we avg'd 33mpg on vacation trip last July three adults + luggage for 4 day stay, avg cruise speed @ 70 mph. It only had around 2000 miles on the odometer back then, might do better this summer.

You'll love driving the HHR in that traffic--cute, fun and I've been averaging about 25-30 miles a gallon with stop and go surface street traffic.

(I miss living in the East Bay!)
Well I drive from Brentwood Hwy4 to 80s then out to point Richmond, about 70/30. The best part is I work swing so I only have to deal with people going shopping at the mall.

For the money this is a good car. I have had mine since 06 and would like to trade it in soon for a newer one. Kids love my car so I guess that is a good thing. I have had no problems with mine, never been to the dealer for any problems with the car. Was in a wreck so I wont count that, but the car held up like a tank.

My '07 just clicked over 25,000 miles in 12 months of driving and I've had zero issues with it, reliability-wise. I just take it in for routine maintenance according to the mfg's schedule and that's that. I think it's important to note that Consumer Reports has given it a "Recommended" rating for the last two years, and in my book that means a lot.
