New radar detctor!!
well I got a new radar detector for xmas, does any one know exactly how i can hool this up hard wired so it comes on and goes off with the car. I know i can wire it into the fuse panel in the center console but what fuse do i use? i want to use the one where it will go off when i open the door. and how do i do it is there something i can buy where it will plug into the fuse panel or what? I did i search and it didnt really explain it all the way through. any pics of what i need to do and where people have been putting their radar detectors woould be greatly appreciated.
what kind? And how much? I been thinking about one but..... my age and IQ have met half way.. and speed isn't a priority any more... still would like to know whats out there..
somebody relieved me of a Valentine several years back and I have not replaced it.. it was very good... amazingly I have not been pulled over for speeding since....

This will show what they look like on the radio shack site. I think some auto parts store can also help you out with them. The add a fuse is the in-line fuse that sometimes comes on the power lead or you put on the power lead of what you want to power up. Hope this does the trick.
They also make a fuse that has a lead that swings up so so you can then attach another lead but I can find the thread to it or the site that I found them on. Again, part store should be able to help. I will look some more to see if I can find the fuse site.
Found it, check out this site http://www.accessafuse.com/

Want to clear up a fact about the fuse taps from Radio Shack that I mentioned in post 7 above that I had read about in a thread someplace on the forum. These taps are for the larger blade type fuses and I just found that they do not work on the mini fuses Chevy has used for many yrs now. I had to file one down and modify in order to make it fit when I went to use the acc. fuse (#21 in the console of the HHR) and even then it isn't the best. Don't know if anyone does make a tap for the mini fuses. Accessafuse would be the best option. What I thought would be a 5 sec power hook up became no fun for about 15 min since I was working in a frigid garage at the time and then back and forth to my half warm work shop until I got it to fit.
