Radar detector

I have never had a radar detector, but now I need one. I hit about 115 on the highway tonight because a pt cruiser passed me. I HAD to pass him back and he was going about 90 and my exit was in about a mile and a half. I know nothing about radar detectors but I dont wanna buy one that isn't going to do a good job. So if any of you have an expertise please share with me :)

Wow, you were able to hit 115 in your HHR? I thought they were governed to like 105 or something close...well first just be careful going that fast on pub highways because you can never predict how OTHERS will respond to your fast approach. Now with that said, I have a cordless solo (paid $250 a couple years ago) and it has been awesome but a word of caution...you should not rely completely on a radar detector. It will reduce your chances of getting plucked but you have to use it along with having a keen eye for watching for cops. NONE WILL 100% PROTECT YOU FROM GETTING A TICKET. If a maker says a detector they make will, DO NOT BELIEVE IT, PERIOD! Take it from me, I have been a so called "speeder" for years with top detectors the whole time and I have been pulled over a few times but have been lucky to escape with warnings or nothing at all. Buy a name brand one and use it with your good attentive driving skills.

Well they got a whistler or something at walmart for like 40 bucks. Mainly wanting to see if that will work. I'm not looking for something that is 100%, I have a really good eye when it comes to cops. (only had 1 ticket in my whole life..and it was a stereo ticket.) Just wanting some help in case I miss one :)

105 if you have a 2.2, 126 for the 2.4. You are definitely right right about your vision and judgement being the number one way of avoiding tickets. Even if you have the triple threat (radar/laser detector, active laser jammer, and CB) your vison and driving skills are always the best thing to rely on. This is a good place to learn about radar detectors. An ex cop owns the company. :) http://www.radarbusters.com/default.asp

What about the speeding ticket on your Car Domain page? Definitely don't buy a $40 detector!

The cheap detector works..Especially if you are driving the same areas most of the time.Your gonna have to deal with alot of bs beeps from stores or whatever else uses radar but you learn the difference. The beeps will get faster if your coming up to a cop if not its just a sparatic beep.I'm sure they have better radars out there but for $40 I'm happy with mine.Hardwire it so you don't have to deal with the plug and it wont be on unless the key is on.
