I have a few Gulf stations in my area...used to be a lot more but that number has shrunk...they are still around though...

I agree with others here, I don't see BP on the list either. I don't use BP myself, I go to a Casey's General Store and get the 10% ethonol. No problems with it, and good milage.

It said "Ford recommends BP gasoline" on the fuel cap on the Ford 500 I drove to North Carolina last month, and had the green sunburst BP logo.

Yep, makes you wonder sometimes about whether this "Top Tier" thing is more related to marketing deals than real quality. If it was so "superior", why don't top brands like BP (and formerly Amoco), Exxon, etc. join this standard?

I think I remember Gulf Oil being bought by Cumberland Farms.

Here in the Phoenix area we have gas piped in from Texas and gas piped in from California. How can this all not get mixed together at the storage tank facility so that no matter what brand you buy, it's all the same stuff? I don't think each brand has their own pipeline.

Alzonie....

You need to visit the Phoenix pump farm to really understand but, all the gasoline is the same UNTIL it is pumped into the tanker truck. At that point, through electronics, the proprietary additives of each separate manufacturer (which they supply), is added. It just depends on who and what the specific tanker truck is supplying.

And as mentioned previously all unleaded gasolines leaving the refineries have the minimal amount of additive, dictated by the EPA, for sale in the US. The additional is at the tank far.

Snoopy is correct. When I had gas stations, we got ours from Windlinger Petroleum out of California. They were the major supplier to Shell. In fact their trucks said Shell and they were painted yellow and white. Windlinger in turn got their supply from Tasco, which was a major refinery and at that time were the only supplier of unleaded gas in California (late 70s), so everyone in our area had the same gas mostly. My station was a private brand (New Horizons) in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo.
