Oil Filter

Interesting...Very interesting.

My replacement oil filter was purchased from the dealer for $5.00 and change.

It was marked with the signature red white & blue AC/Delco label...but came in a sealed plastic bag. No box. -Sam

Mine cost me $12 the other day at my dealership. When I used their oil change package, it was only $6.

I'll post my manufacturer/filter list once I get the Carquest and Napa Gold product #s (they are both made by Wix, so they may be the same as the Wix #)

BTW, are you guys sure you are getting a PF456G? Everything I have come across indicates that the PF456G was superseded by the PF457G.

I'd imagine that includes the Wix filters supplied to CARQUEST that are made in the Czech Republic, right? (all Ecotec filters I've bought thus far have been Czech in origin)

(BTW, the CARQUEST Wix numbers have an extra digit. There's also a second CARQUEST line with B numbers made by a Canadian firm, it just started making Ecotec filters not two months ago.)

It includes the Carquest and Napa filters made by Wix. Not sure where they are sourced from.

The Carquest number I got from the local Carquest shop just had the first 2 digits of the Wix part number changed (84 instead of 57). When I asked him if that was the Blue or Red line, he said it was the CTI line. Never heard of it before...maybe that is the Canadian produced one.

The Napa part numbers are the same as the Wix numbers, except the first digit is removed.

I won't have to worry about the filter. I get FREE oil changes from the dealer for the life of the vehicle.

Ecotec Filter List

Here is the list of filters for our Ecotec engines that I have been able to determine to date. I don't recall where I got this info originally, but I have since added to it.

You will see that some of the filter numbers are almost identical. They are just rebranded, but I included them anyway.
Carquest, Napa, and Wix filters are all produced by Wix. Kralinator and Auto Extra also appear to be Wix filters.

Oil Filter

What a great list. It shows alot of effort put into the project. Perhaps upon completion this should be posted as a sticky for future reference by all members of the forum!

Are there any other comparable lists for other filters, ie. fuel, air, interior cabin? -Sam

Funny you should ask

I have some for air and cabin filters. Not as many as for the oil filters though - in addition to the AC Delco/GM ones in our owners manuals the other ones are all Wix produced.

Great list ! I've stickied (i.e. stole) it for my computer.

Now, the next step is to come up with something that says which ones are exactly the same filters, i.e. which ones are interchangeable so that you end up with exactly the same filter.

Some like Fram, Supertech, STP and Quaker State seem obvious as per their number, but are they? I'm sure that there are no more than 3 different filters from that list.

I have a Fram that I got for free with an oil purchase, it's not installed yet so I could get the data from it.

It gets even more interesting.

I was under the hood yesterday inspecting the new A/C hoses that were installed for the A/C growl TSB and happened to glance at the plastic oil filter cap. It's not stamped with AC Delco. It too has Hengst stamped on it.

Looking at my invoices for the two oil changes I've had done so far, I've only paid for oil filters, so I have to assume that this is still the factory installed oil cap.
