It should do both... if the HHR DIC is anything like my Avalanche. I figure if the oil life is at 100% there is no reason for the message to come on.

Good point, thanks. I still want to know about the oil filter itself. I guess I'll just go out and look at my engine to see if I can answer my own question.

Wow, 25 month old thread.

Id you can't figure it out by the manual, do a search. There is a shortcut methods someone posted. The Normal method always works for me.

Read your Owners Manual, there is an explanation on the correct procedure (the buttons need to be pushed in a "secret" combination....kind of like a Captain Video ring)

Exclamation

UPDATE!!
OK. I've tried every possible combo and still cannot get into personalized menu.
About the only thing I'd need to do would be to reset the dang oil life monitor when the techies forget to do so or if/when I do some driveway maintenance.
So, here's the trick. Turn ig to run, with engine off tap gas pedal to floor 3 x's. You should see it reset to 100%. This procedure is used for vehicles w/o the DIC interface. I would imagine the change soon would also go away.
Still gotta wonder how to get into personalized menu using sterring wheel buttons.
