Operating Temp
My 2.0 SS will often see 212-214 in normal operation. It runs hotter than my old 2.4. The 2.4 usually was right around 200 in normal operation; The highest I ever saw the 2.4 was near 220 once when towing a small trailer with the A/C on and a nasty headwind.
Well, the hotter the better for MPG to a point. My SS runs 190-200 and I have seen 215 sitting at a long light. I don't care until about 230 and then I will pay attention to what direction it's taking. I hear the fan kick on so it's doing it's job. Unloaded the temps seem to be well managed by the fan. We will see when I am climbing the mountains in 100F weather. As long as it stays under 230 I am fine with it.
I did notice that the upper radiator air deflector/baffle that is intended to force air through the radiator and not over it lays back enough that incoming air can get past it to the engine. It looks like it supposed to have something to seal it at the top but nothing is there.
Maybe GM decided they wanted some air to pass into the engine compartment unheated by the radiator. I guess I should look at the manual and see what they intended. There are a couple of gaps that would allow air around the radiator. (Edit: I check the manual and I guess this is normal. I'm going to stop by the dealer and check out another SS to make sure.) I need to make sure the air dam is there too.
