What's a smoke test? (As I'm Googling it). LOL

He just said he's done a smoke test before. I don't think he'll do it tonight but probably tomorrow.

Thanks,
Jessica

Ok so the smoke test revealed smoke coming out of the injector insulator furthest to the right. That would be injector 4 right? I don't think the HHR engine had those but this engine does. We put the hose in through the throttle body and stuffed paper towels around it to get the smoke to go through.

Thanks,
Jessica

Yes the HHR does have those insulators and the orings, RockAuto has a kit for that

I use the GM kit, it’s about very complete.

We swapped the coil packs between 1 & 4. The injectors are new but they didn't come with new insulators. I just went to AutoZone and bought the kit and we replaced all 4. Hissing noise is gone but still have P0301.

Thanks,
Jessica

Ahh... Okay. I'm barely paying attention these days. I knew something got swapped.

I’m thinking electrical or a burn valve but the compression test didn’t indicate the valve was the problem, you’ve visually inspected the connector, now you need to test the wires with a multi meter.

Did you clear the codes after replacing the seals ? And the P0301 came back ?
Just want to clarify that it's not a code left over from before the repair.

Yes I did clear the codes after replacing the seals and the P0301 code came back. As soon as I start it you can hear the misfire.

Usually before you put it into gear the Service Traction and ESC Off and Service ESC message will display and the traction light comes on. I know these are just side effects from whatever is going on because they did that when the timing chain was going. Being that the engine has only been in the car for about 7 months I truly hope it's not a timing chain issue. I think I'd have the crank and cam sensor codes though like last time.

I have a multi-meter and can test the wires. Do you know what the voltages should be or what I should be looking for?

I have a check list of possible reasons that this code could kick and I am running out of items on that list to replace. LOL I think the throttle body and the VVT solenoids are left. We are going to the junk yard this weekend because I need to get the door lock actuator for my back passenger door and while we are there we are going to grab a throttle body and some solenoids. I'd rather pay $30 right now to try something than $200.

Thanks,
Jessica
