it looks like you can just unscrew the shaft from the mount but I'm not 100% on this.They have pics on the installation page..

That mount is similiar to what most of the investigators I work with use in their minivans. They have had pretty good luck with them. I had been using my Silverado truck in the past and used the center console for my laptop. I have only used my HHR once doing surveillance and I just sat the laptop on the back of the passenger seat. However, I would like to get something nice to cover that back with. The only problem with the mounts is that they tend to get in the way of a front seat passenger. I don't do enough PI work anymore to justify having a mount there full time. I was thinking of finding something to cover the back with and using some type of belt system around the seat back to keep the laptop in place in case of an accident like STG mentioned. I'd hate to see my laptop flying out the front window and even with the mount system the laptop just sits on top of it, it's not secured. Just my two cents.....
