Power Steering Assist Letter

I just received a letter from GM advising me that my 07 LT2 "may experience a sudden loss of power steering assist that could occur at any time while driving". The letter goes on to say that UNLESS I have had this problem I am not to take the car to my dealer for replacement. So, I gather there has not yet been an official recall for this latest issue. I assume I'm supposed to wait until a failure happens and THEN hope my wife isn't the one driving (with weaker arm strength) and THEN take the car in for power steering assist replacement. There is a line that states "If you believe that your vehicle has the condition described above, repairs and adjustments qualifying under this special coverage must be performed by a Chevrolet dealer." Now ..... how am I supposed to "assume" that my HHR MAY have this condition unless or until the unit does the deep six????

If your level of concern is as great as it seems to be, head to your dealer, grab the service manager and make arrangements to have the EPS work done. Dealers are allowed a good bit of latitude to make repairs for "customer goodwill".

Having the power steering motor fail isn't as bad as the media reports make it out to be. I've had a motor fail, and my wife(5' 7" tall, 112lbs) drove the HHR with no power steering just to make sure she could.

Other than her comments about "I wouldn't want to try parallel parking minus the power steering", she had no issues.

I bought an 09 LS in September of '14, and there was a recall on this that was fixed before I took delivery of the car.
