question about a timing chain tensioner

Just wondering about who makes this product? is it one company that make it for everyone ? I see gm ,cloyes ,and other brands which all look the same side by side.So i am assuming it is the same maker for all any details.. thanks

Might very well be just one company. But it could be 2, 3, 4 or more. Since they "all look alike" and are not stamped with the manufacturer's name, no one for sure can tell you.

I'm reasonably sure GM has it made from an outsourced producer. Whether they produce it for others is a guess. Could be. But also could be reverse engineered. And whether the exact same quality, material, spec. is used is a guess as well.

The Ecotec is a "euro/world" engine, sourced from many countries and vendors. I have read some descriptions of the tensioner as "made in France" and some "made in Germany". Cloyes is a French company, but who knows where the factories are. I really don't see a profit motive in reverse engineering that particular part; it's got to cost a couple of dollars to manufacture, I could be wrong.

The one I got from the dealer was made in Germany, I'm guessing that's a good thing.
