Quick and funny story
A few weeks ago my wife started complaining about a 'smell' that was coming from her car (2010 Cobalt). Unfortunitly I've been so busy at work that I kind of forgot about it and didn't check it out. Well last weekend I put new brakes and rotors in and that's when I smelt it. The cat converter was shot for sure. So I made her an apointment at the dealership and all she needed to do was show up, I told them the problem and she was still under warranty... Well this is where it gets interesting, the 'service manager' starts to ask my wife questions when she first shows up. After about 10-15 minutes of questioning, the guy tells her the egg smell is merely because she is using a poor quality gas and to only buy gas from Shell...! So when I get home from work that night she tells me this. Now she is only a few k away from her warranty running out, so I know the game they were trying to play. However the owner of said dealership is a family friend. So the 'service mananger' didn't know what he was in for. So I of course called the owner (at home) and gave him a run down of what happened at his dealership... He had it all rectified the next day, along with 5 free oil changes and 3 months of free car washes... but I couldn't believe guys still pull this stuff on women.....
WOW yeah I believe it. Lots of dirt bags out there. I don't want to sound like a nerd but knowledge is power. Lots of these guys think they take people especially the young and or female for chumps. Im glad you got it taken care of
Dealer Attitude
My experience went the other way. I had developed a thumping noise that appeared to be in 3 out of 4 wheels. Most noticeable when going over cracks in the road or up driveways with a slight bump. Took it to the local GMC dealer
(who has been doing my maintenance all along). Bad bearings in right front rotor that was replaced under warranty. I was amazed. I didn't realize that this was a warranty item and was expecting a bill of several hundred dollars.
All I had to pay for was the LOF that I had also brought it in for.
