Here in central FL. there is a very large rental fleet. At the auctions [GM auctions][1st of each Mo] at three sites orlando,sanford,oco. there are 10-15 units of HHR at each site. They are all lease buy backs from GM rentals. Even buy here pay here lots have HHR's on there lots. if that in not lowering The price. $11.500-$13,500 at auctions. LS & 1LT auto W/O remote start

I'm hoping to beat the depreciation by having my HHR written off at some point this year . I have a two year depreciation policy on my insurance which means that should they write it off they will pay the original quoted price for the vehicle (32,000 CAD after tax and extras)
Of course, this only works if my insurance rate doesn't go up too drastically because of the write off

Since we don't put that many miles on our HHR** we plan on keeping it for many, many years, barring any unforeseen disasters of course. 
So trade-in values aren't really of much relevance to us. 
**Our '96 Nissan Altima only has 68,000 miles on it for example!

I don't follow the fuss...the depreciation on the HHR is average, in fact a bit above. If you go to Kelly Blue Book and get average trade in on an 06 HHR LT, with 15000 miles with Air/Power steering, windoes, door locks/Tilt/Cruise/MP3 player, Anti Lock Brakes, Alloy Wheels, Roof Rack, Front Air bags, it is $12,370 for good condition, $13, 225 for excellent. A NEW 2007 with the same equipment, stickers for $19395 (probably pay a bit less in real life). So that is one year depreciation of 32%.
Now go and do the same for any other car you can think of (American). I did it for a Pontiac Grand Prix GT, with identical equipment to the HHR. It stickers for $25,500. The good trade in on 06 model is $14,530, excellent trade in is $15,525. That is a one year depreciation of 39%.
An Impala came out in the Grand Prix range. So the HHR is doing fine.
