About a week ago I noticed that the rear defroster stopped working. We had some Ice buildup and it did not even make lines like it usually does. I left it on for the whole ride home, about 45 minutes. I read in the Manual that the rear defroster fuse was in the under hood box in location #2. It was one of those Square ones?? Did not look burnt. Are there any other places/things to check before I take it in to the shop?

 

When you turn it on did the light come on in the center of the knob? if so then it has power to the switch, If so turn it on and use a test light to see if there is power at the rear window at the wire that goes to the grid on the glass. If there is power there then the grid on glass has a open, look for a cut or scrach anywhere on the grid. IF no power at the rear glass there is a relay that might no be working. good luck

 

Thylacine, have a close inspection of your backglass. Are both metal defroster tabs making good contact with the glass? it's possible you may have knocked one off or lose. If thats the case, a good auto glass shop should be able to re-attatch your defroster tab back on with the proper glue.
