Recall?

As I mentioned on another thread, I got an orange postcard in the mail title URGENT RECALL NOTICE. At the bottom this handwritten in:

Campaign # 08157

Does anyone know what this is for?

Yeah, its for the latch on the dash compartment, but at least your dealership mailed you the information. Mine literally mailed me the part and basically said 'here, do it yourself.' Apparently my dealership is riddled with idiots.

It was planned to be a DIY repair in the first place . . . thus why GM mailed it to you.

Which is absolutely true, but my cousin in Indiana has an '08 he bought in August and they mailed him a letter telling him to come in and they would handle it. Clearly it wasn't a difficult fix and it takes approximately 47 seconds to administer, but I would just like to know why some people get told to come in and others get the part in the mail...

Received mine and installed in under 10 seconds. Much nicer then having to wait at the service department. I think GM made the right decision in mailing it out.

My wife, who is not mechanically inclined, thought she could have done it in under 20 seconds.

I think it is more so the door doesn't open and whatever you have stored in there doesn't fly out in the event of a crash.

Being that it is right and face level and all, I had no problem putting it in.

To each their own.
