I actually received a letter from my dealership yesterday saying that a recall has not be completed on my vehicle. I don't recall which recall number it was but I'm pretty sure it's the storage latch re-enforcement.

GM sent me the piece about two months ago but I still haven't gotten around to installing it.

My question is, if the recall is in the system but the repair is a do-it-yourself job (as evidenced by GM sending the pieces to the owners) how does one go about updating the GM system. Do I call/email/send a letter to GM stating I have done the recall or do I contact the dealership and let them know.

I actually find it a little strange that GM would make a recall repair a do-it-yourself job. I know it's a simple matter of removing some tape backing and sticking the piece in place but couldn't their be future litigation and liability concerns against GM if something does happen in the future where the bin opens and something hits a passenger as a result of an accident because the recall repair failed or was put on incorrectly? I would assume GM should do the repair in order to cover their asses.

Just like the transmission dip sticks they mailed to C/K owners in the 90's, they don't have a plan on how these recalls are going to come off of the GMVIS system. This is what tells dealers about all open recalls.

The only way a recall comes off the GMVIS system is for the dealer to submit a claim stating they did the recall.

Note in Chevy Mgr recall post not all HHR's need the recall. The late 08 models already have the new style latch.
