The Red Sled Gets Serviced - Sunroof Issue!
OK,
So the Red Sled went in today with exactly 12,000 miles on the odo. Did the 9,000 mile service, had the oil changed (went to synthetic), had the wheel sensors calibrated (Firestone didn't do it like they were supposed to). And I had them check the sunroof as one out of every 20 times it emits a loud squeal when opening/closing.
Turns out there is a bulletin for the sunroof - they say it will be three days at a body shop grinding into the paint to fix the issue.
I'm leaning towards living with it..... what say you, HHR brothers and sisters?

As long as it's not chewing into the paint as it is now, it'd live with it.
Mine made a chirp/squeal once inna while while opening/closing (can't say i hear it now) so mebbe it's a break in thing.
I'd let them lube what they can, in case it's not a job that needs all that down time in the paint shop

My thinking exactly. I was surprised to hear the "fix" was so drastic. I originally assumed it was just a lubrication problem. Who'd design a vehicle that has glass opening into metal?
My beloved Chevrolet, obviously!!

It was explained to me that it would have to be gone "into" and the paint would have to be sanded down and the metal that is in the way - and then repainted. It is on the inside (from what I understand) but even that scares me.

TSB........warranty........
I'd have it fixed as long as it's on GM's dime, no matter how drastic it may sound. And since you've already reported having the problem and given a solution (at no cost to you) they may be inclined to deny fixing it under warranty if it gets any worse or more problematic. Just make sure to get a loaner, you never know what 3 days will turn into.
My only, but I've been known to open/close the sun roof of my HHR 20 times in a day.
