remote start....???
bought my HHR used the other day(only 11,000 miles). anyway, the dealer gave me a fob with keyless entry only, but everything i've seen says that all auto's have remote start. did the dealer just give me a generic fob, or do i just not have remote start? and without a fob, how would i tell???
i've been poking around the board for the last 2 days, and there are a lot of helpful threads, i'll definetly be stopping in more often.

I think you indicated that you have an automatic transmission. A retail delivered vehicle, with automatic, is standard with the remote start on the fob (may be wrong, but I haven't seen any without it). So that leaves a couple of choices....
You were given an "aftermarket" or generic fob or you have purchased a vehicle that was in a rental fleet.
What does the fob have for "button" illustrations? A closed lock, and open lock, and a button with an illustration of a horn....it's probably a rental vehicle (a lot of the vehicles delivered to rental fleets were allowed to delete the "auto start".....retail deliveries were not).
If the remote illustrations look more generic, then it is probably an aftermarket fob (if the dealer delivered your vehicle with an HHR Owners Book, I believe the correct illustrations are in there).
Also and I'm not sure about this, but I think all OEM fobs will have the GM licensing engraved on the reverse side, inside of an etched crest that provides instructions on use. At the bottom of that is, "GM/L XXXXXXX" and then the battery number.
Good luck...
Out of curiousity....did you get a full GM Corporate backed warranty for the balance of the mileage and time???

and yes, i have the remaining time/mileage on the warranty, i registered with GM yesterday, all the paperwork is on its way.
i had a 2005 Colorado single-cab. nice truck, dependable, decent(not great) on gas. but my parents and siblings live in MA(a 9 1/2 hour drive) and the truck was brutal on my back. plus now i dont have to put my bags in the uncovered bed and pray for good weather the whole ride. Only had my HHR 2 days, but i love it. already bought a few small mods, and i will probably squander most of my tax return on it as well.
I'm laughing at this....not you....sorry.
I suspect it's probably from a rental fleet. My laughing is due to the comment about the dealer grabbing any fob that worked. Based on the comments from members of this forum and others....most of the dealers can't even program the OEM issued to the car correctly
. Necessary for owners to return several times to get it done. But, you may have a good dealer.Hey, glad you like your car. And glad you have the GM warranty (not that you will need it).
ok, no AP3, and no DIC option for it(it was a rental, but i took it to a different dealer and it passed the GM Certfied inspection with flying colors), which leads me to my next question....is it just a module delete and all i have to do is plug n play a new remote start module? will the DIC recognize it and is the wiring already in place(a la the steering wheel audio)? if its that simple a fix, i would prefer to do it, rather than do an aftermarket kit. thanks for all your help so far.
