Side airbags

Hi everyone. I have been doing some research thinking of purchasing a hhr, however, while looking I found the side airbag option but not the color Im interested in. after considering how necessary these are.
Im wondering how many others have that option and how many feel it is a necessary option.
I have the color chosen and all the options however have found limited number of hhr's with sideair bags installed. most have the chrome wheel option or stereo upgrade.
One other question would it be possible to install the airbags on a completed hhr?

Thanks in advance
best wishes
max

The HHR gets five star side impact rating without the side bags so I feel safe without them.

Mine did not come with the side airbags and I bought mine off the lot. One of the advantages to having them, is that you are better protected in the event of a side impact crash. With the standard and optional side airbags, the HHR has received a 5 star crash test rating, in case you were not aware of that.

As with anything else, I'm sure they can be added...but at a price, which could be quite substantial if done by the dealer.

Some dealers may be reluctant to install airbags due to liability. As Deb said, you'd save quite a bit more equipped from the factory. And chevy.com isn't that reliable in terms of configurations. If I remember, I'll try putting together an order to see if there are any color-based limitations. But I doubt it since color is usually only limited on certain higher-end models, which would carry head-curtain, side-impact airbags as optional equipment.

Coop...do you get an additional discount for the side curtain airbags? My insurance is with American National and I get an airbag discount and I only have the driver and passenger front airbags.

CH...is that a childhood picture of you in your avatar?
