I was watching Shelby SuperCars on "Most Expensive Rides" and freeze frame on the close-up of the tires.
Yep, sho nuff! The same Michelins we have on our SSs.

Mine are like banana skins at 50K but they served me well.

I'm looking at Goodyear Eagle GTs now since I might be moving to TN early in '11.

Winter Update

This past winter (well most of it is behind us) I ran the 16" Firestone Affinity tires (over 10K miles) and have NO complaints. I drive 60 miles one way M-F Canton to Cleveland so I see all types of road conditions and traffic. The roads were anything from dry to wet to ice to 5" of snow. The average tread is 5-6/32". While these may not be the best winter tires I definitely cannot complain about their performance. I am going to run these tires for a few more months and then reinstall the original 17" Firestone Firehawk GTA tires for summer driving. I will look for a replacement winter tire later this summer so I am ready for next winter. For the record, February set a record in Canton for the most snow and is on track for a record season total snowfall. This is one winter I will be glad to "see in the rear view mirror".

Drives like crap...

My Cobalt with Winterforce tires and steelies was a beast! I drove through my yard with 8 inches of snow lol. She also had an LSD...

My new HHR LS gets stuck so easily-its a one-wheel wonder. The HHR is easily persuaded out of its designated line by slush as well. Just my observation and I'm giving it to you straight. If you're worried, get steelies and snow tires. I haven't compared yet, but am sure it makes a difference.
Nothing was better in the snow than my 95 Riviera... and I mean NOTHING. Not even the truck. lol

There should be no difference in performance of the Cobalt and HHR. THey are both the same car and platform with just a different body. The Tires are normally the difference.

The Pilots are ok but for the money they cost there are much better tires. The wet traction on my OE Pilots is horrible. But on the other hand the wear is pretty good so far.

Just because the tire is on a expensive car does not always mean it is one of the best. Most companies like Shelby can not afford to have tires taylored to their cars the Chevy does for the Vette or Ferrari does for many of their cars.

The Pilots on the SS were a top line tire at one time but they are getting older and have been upgraded buy other models that are more advanced.

The GT's I think you will like. They are not perfect but for the money there is not much else out there in that price range that will do better.

The LSD makes a HUGE difference.
Night and day in the snow. Imagine ONE wheel pulling you with the HHR LS versus TWO... what would you prefer?

I know what you mean. The last two weeks here in Akron were a killer. I have had over 18 inches in just the last two weeks. Even the rain and 50 degree temps have had a hard time getting rid of my piles of snow.

Put a set of Michelin ice/x on this winter . A little pricey but they really work well . A bit noisy on the hwy . but the winter traction was very good .

One other thing , the warped rotor syndrome seems to have disappeared ?!!??

HHR in the Snow

I live in Rochester, NY and we have had one of the worse winters in 100 years. Unfortunately I have to drive my HHR in the snow. I have about 20,000 miles on the Cooper Tires and it is not the best handling car in the snow. The short and light front end, coupled with the 4 cylinder engine is not enough weight for good traction. It is not bad in the snow, it is just not good in the snow.
