Steering wheel alignment; i-shaft snapped

1st of, we are ok. Everyone freaks out when I tell them the intermediate steering shaft broke.

It broke when I put it in reverse to leave a parking spot.

sooooooo..... the steering wheel is not going to be straight at all, how would i go back to a true steering wheel? I have a new Dorman shaft coming. But between the tow truck and turning the steering wheel, I have no clue where center is now.

Get the front wheel straight ahead, Then the steering wheel centered. Then install the shaft.
if the steering wheel has been spun will-nilly the chances are good that the clock spring is broken. I guess the best way to center it would be to turn GENTLY it in one direction until there is any resistance \then in the other counting revolutions, divide by 2 that is centered. Might be a good idea to have someone that knows how to use a diagnostic computer to recalibrate the sensor.

My friend heath has one of the fancy computers he can connect to the computer.

Yes the steering wheel was turned all the way, tow truck driver didn't listen and understand what an intermediate steering shaft was, so he tried to turn the steering wheel.

How would I know if clock spring is bad? I have dorman i shaft ordered, but what else might I need?

If the horn still works the clock spring should be ok. All of the controls on the steering wheel go through it.

I will check them all tomorrow, it started raining here.

luckily, it's sitting in the driveway now, close to the garage.

Dorman 425-189 has been ordere, after this, most of the car has been replaced rofl

This car has been a nightmare. It was wifes replacement since motor blew in last one. It came from Michigan, where I'm pretty sure it sat in a creek. All the suspension has been replaced, both lca, wheel hubs. Entire brake system and lines. Fuel lines just replaced. Zzp exhaust, headers, intake. Radiator, ac system.
3 weeks ago hvac blower. When first got it, all sound system components. Multiple motor seals... list goes on and on.

Soooooo if anyone needs to know, it's 6 full rotations from right to left. So dead center is 3 rotations.
Plus mine still had green factory mark on steering wheel side.

Next is alignment from replacing the lca, then this adventure should be done for a while.

Shouldn’t need an alignment for lca replacement, only adjustment is the toe.

The alignment was never perfect on where it should have been. Always just dealt with it.

But with my kids now being the main driver for this car, I'm gonna have it taken care of one less thing they have to worry about while driving.
