Recently my steering wheel has started to produce a quite noticeable squeaking/squeling sound when turning it rapidly and for maybe half a rotation or more. It's rather a high pitched squeaking/squeling than a coarse groaning. It's more pronounced when it's cold. As far as I can tell, the sound originates right from behind the wheel, not somewhere down the steering shaft.

Is there anything there which could/should be lubricated? If yes, how could I access it? I can remove the steering wheel upper and lower trim covers, but removing the wheel itself??

 

Probably just the cold, mine does the similar noises , no place to lubricate.

 

It just started this winter. Never had this in the past winters. So that's why I thought that maybe something needs a few drops of oil or so.
