Thinking of buying an HHR. Any wisdom?

I did not get the running boards. While I like the look, I found that the back of my legs kept hitting the running boards when getting out. I'm 5'10". I also passed on the rails, mudflaps and spoiler. I wanted a clean look

This place has a kit for the door and rocker for $21 You might try that STG. At least then can be replaced when they get to looking bad.

I got mine fully loaded, plus added the mudflaps and rain guards to be installed by the dealer (could have and should have done it myself to save bucks, but I figured they would be warrantyed this way). I did not want the luggage rack (still dont like it), spoiler (not sure if I like it), XM radio with On Star (originally didnt want them but now glad I got them). I was in a hurry to buy it before Jan for the Red Tag sale. If I ordered one with just the options I wanted, it would have still cost more than fully equipped at sale price.

The luggage rack is useless with out support bars, which are not included and very, very, very expensive. I did not want the XM since I planned on changing radios right away (I got the premium pack but not the quality I am used to-still it comes with the wiring for the sub and the box for it). As it turns out, switching radios is not as simple as it used to be. It affects the OnStar, phone, computer, and chimes. So now I am patiently waiting for a kit that allows everything to work. Plus, I need an adapter to keep the steering wheel controls working. So I am glad about the XM. Never had satellite before, but love it now, though I think I would prefer Sirius. Nex, the On Star is good because it is also for recover after theft, and you get a nice break on your insurance. Plus, nothing beats the built in speakers and mike with the carphone. Best if you also have Verizon for your personal cell, cause they can be combined. But I added minutes just for emergencies.

My dealer finally stepped up -- GM wouldn't -- and is installing the boards for $300. This includes painting the quarters and the use of a loaner until the work is done. Apparently GM is leaving it to the local dealer to stand behind the HHRs that were sold without running boards.

As for the mudflaps.... I really don't like 'em. I'm watching for any problems and may do them later if problems come up. Those are very easy to add later.
Joe R,

Where did you get the vintage Chevrolet Grille Decal?
* Never mind - I found one on eBay and ordered. Thanks.
