Chevy Captiva is nothing but a re-purposed Saturn Vue. Was going to be sold as a fleet only vehicle IIRC, the ones showing up are lease returns maybe?

The Captivas are comming off rental. It is for fleet use. I have been in one but not driven one. It was on my local dealors lot. It was nice on the inside. It was several months ago.

I just saw the specs on the 2014 Subaru Forester, today. It looks pretty good on paper and is available with a 2 litre, turbocharged boxer engine. I don't know how expensive it is for maintainence costs, though!

Yes, you are correct. They are sold to Fleet Rentals only.
2012's are comming to the Chevrolet dealers thru auctions.
Our dealer here has 2 in stock right now.
I am just curious enough to drive 120 miles to see and drive one.
Will post my thoughts when and if I do.

I am trying to decide if I should go with another crossover type vehicle (read station wagon), a small SUV, or something sporty. The third option is my "mid life crisis" vehicle and really just a wild card. I know that I would be happier with something that has similar versitality to the HHR and maybe gets a bit better mileage (mine never averaged more than about 24 MPG).

The optimum vehicle would have the ablility to carry two bikes inside with a weeks worth of camping gear for two people. It would have to be available with leather seats as I much prefer the ease of cleaning (think muddy bike shorts) of leather over cloth seats. I would also be happy if I could improve my avg fuel efficiency.

I have looked at the Mazda CX-5, The new Ford Escape, and the Subaru forester. What other cars would you suggest?

I have also looked at some used Nissan 350 Z's. Damn, those things are nice!
Same boat although I decided not to trade my Tacoma TRD for an HHR. We are thinking about replacing the wife's RAV 4 with 80K miles. The CX-5 looks a good option so far along with another RAV. Sorento is not as economical, I cannot wrap my head around a $30K "Escape" The Nissan Rogue might be worth a look as well. But I don't care for the CVT transmission.

We have not had a single issue with the RAV and she was hit by a drunk driver 2 years ago and did $10K worth of damage and still no residual issues. Strong reliable, if boring vehicle. We have an offer for $9500 for the 06 from friends looking for a used RAV. Paid $18K for it in early 2008 with 24K.

Me I have a soft spot for the HHR. Tried to talk her into one but the wife hates it. I will get one anyway, I want a hobby car, but have not found one at the right price yet,
