Tire Sensor Battery?

I have a 2008 HHR that I bought new, it now has 56,000 miles. Yesterday I got a warning that I needed to check the tire sensor. And the monitor for that tire shows no PSI. I read in another post something about a battery in the sensor and that the sensor needs to be replaced. Is there a battery and can it not be changed? Do I need to put in a new sensor?

Whole new sensor. Battery is sealed into it.

I found some sensors on RockAuto and it looks like they go inside the tire. So the tire would have to be taken off the rim to put it in. Correct? So I can't do it myself

True. Where did you expect them to be?

The stems are rubber or metal depending on which wheels you have. The stems have a threaded insert inside them for screwing the sensor on. The tire store guys will most likely try charging a lot to tighten that screw.

If one has gone (battery has a 10 year expectancy) the others will soon. I would replace them all at the next tire change, unless it bothers you too much to manually check that one tire.

I guess I will going back to the old days for awhile. I am not going to need new tires any time soon. Anyway I know what's up now and can live with it. Thanks for all the great replies. This forum is a great source of information.

On my 2008 the service tire monitor comes on about once a month on the left front tire. Once I stop the car and restart the next time it goes away. One time it did stay on and I put a couple pounds of air into the tire and it cleared up. Not going to replace until I need new tires.

I'd be inclined to do the same thing.
