There are several older threads regarding towing behind a motor home. In the orange bar at the top of the screen type "Towing" into the "Search" function. Should bring up some threads for you to look over.

The kit is the least of the cost. Installation of the base plate, and the wiring as well as braking systems require a lot of labor.

Did a ton of research on this subject. First you'll need the base plates. This is the part that is specific to the car. Demco makes a custom baseplate for the HHR and the HHR SS. There is a difference in products between them, so the part numbers are different for the HHR and the HHR SS.

Once you have the baseplates installed on the HHR, the tow bars are pretty much universal in most cases.

You can then buy many tow bars to hook up to the baseplate (Blue Ox, Roadmaster, Demco). You will also have to remove fuse #8 to tow. You can fabricate or buy a fuse bypass for this function.

You will love towing the HHR ! No problems at all tows nicely . I had a Toyota Matrix that I towed on a dolly hated it (tow dolly) ! Remove # 8 fuse (fuse box in Cabin) turn key on (to unlock steering) and go ,tracks great behind my Foretravel Gran Villa (has even the same general shape as my Foretravel LOL) . Anyways I went with the Roadmaster Sterling Towbar and I bought it from Ebay ($300) works great and light weight compared to others . Good luck

Agree the HHR is a great towing car. We have been towing ours for almost three years. I have all Blueox tow equipment, the base plate and the tow bar, and US gear brakes. I never even know the car is back there, except I can see it in the camera. I had a mechanical key made, which I use to unlock the steering wheel, that way I can lock and alarm the car while it is in tow.
