Thank you, sleeper for that reply. Outfitting the panel for convertible sleeper for short overnght stays. But wanted to tow a teardrop camper My Grand Cherokee will pull fine, and the fuel consumption on my straight 6 is a killer....

Thank you, sleeper for that reply. You're welcome. Outfitting the panel for convertible sleeper for short overnght stays. Understood. But wanted to tow a teardrop camper My Grand Cherokee will pull fine, and the fuel consumption on my straight 6 is a killer.... IIRC there was a member who did pull a teardrop here. No issuers. They aren't that heavy TIKO.

Don't go driving down the road in windy conditions or ever have a panic stop going down a hill. The nice Trooper will check the weight. Sure, it can pull 1200LB, can it stop 1200LB?
The answer is it cannot LEGALLY pull 1200 lb.

...point taken..and I have seen 1/2 ton pickups pulling large loads. My choice if I go that way, I do take personal responsibility for my actions.
Will look for more info on this thread. Right now, still In Idea stage.

Reading this through I came up with these thoughts...
You are looking at on the wrong end for towing. Put a tow bar on the front (if a manual tranny) and haul the HHR with a proper tow rig.
Convert/modify the inside for the overnight stay sleeping area. In essence hauling a trailer with the potential to be the second vehicle in case the tow rig breaks down.
I know, crazy talk. I'm surprised I don't see any HHR being towed behind the big RV's I see on the interstate. It would be a good choice I'd think.
