Trailer Hitch Wiring

So I've had my hitch on my HHR for about three years with no problem, bought from U-Haul-they wired it up by splicing into system. I've just bought a LED hitch cover and was wondering if anyone has run their wiring through a hole to the underside of the spare tire well instead of having the wire hang out the hatch when in use? I'm trying to find a way of fairly permanently having power to the hitch without seeing the wire too much. If you haven't, but have any ideas of the best way to do this and where the best place might be, I'm all ears. Right now, I have about ten feet of wire stowed in the left taillight compartment. Thank in advance guys.

Some have run the wire thru a grommet in the back but , I just use mine occasionally so didn't do that.

I think there is a hole plug under the spare tire, you could either punch a hole in it or replace it with a grommet.
