Emergency Liftgate Release
If the vehicle loses power, the liftgate must be opened

To open the liftgate, do the following:
1. Remove the trim plug, located on the inside of the
liftgate near the center, to expose the access hole
in the trim panel.
2. Push the release lever.
3. Reinstall the trim plug.
I know what the manual says but good luck finding it. I found the plug and took it out but no handle in there.

I have heard that. Just keeping Snoopy happy referring to the manual ( to Snoopy)

One of these days I'll have to check and see if maybe Canadian models came properly equipped.

With my luck you will probably have one. It seems like I always get screwed. I probably have the only HHR without one.

Hey cvrogershhr, BTW I know I did a lot of commenting on your post. Don't misunderstand my intent. Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion on what is useless! I just have a contra opinion, that's all.

Nope you're not the only one. Just went out and took off the trim plug and no release to be found.

O'k guys.....it's there. a little hard to find because it is not how it is illustrated in THE BOOK.

Follow the directions in the owners book BUT when the lid is open trip the lock so it is closed. If you insert the 4 inch or longer screw driver straight in next to the plastic piece (right side looking up from storage area), the lock will trip.

Everyone had me wondering about this as a potential safety problem, so I had to try it.........no problem. And really, you should try it ahead of time, just in case.

Well everyone can complain about tlittle things that they dont like, but I will just say this...... 5 star crash. After my crash and what has happen to others, for a small car these seem to be built like mini tanks. I will put up with a few pain the a$$ things for a safe little car.
