Wow, as I pick my jaw up off my desk.... As if the LS1 tweaked out was not enough.. BDS, is that a 6-71 or 8-71 ? You're gonna need wings on it, when you get the belt on & etc.
Once I decided to take the 871 leap, serious mechanical requirements had to be met. I had to move the firewall back again, take an 18" section of cowl out, make new fiberglass cowl covers, make a fiberglass hood,
notch the dash and the hardest thing, waterjet a 18" x 8" notch out of the windshield. We are still working on notching the windshield. I'm working with a real good waterjet guy but we haven't got it correct yet. We have
broken 2 so far but I have some ideas to make this work. All 50 states require a laminated glass windshield and the cops know it so lexan is not an option.
Yes I am sure some serious mechanical requirements had to be met to fit the 8-71. But it is just so mind blowing. Massively Awesome.
Windshield & being laminated will be interesting to see that out come. Couldn't you just box the cut-out with metal ?
Well my half baked idea to flip the tie rods upside down seems to work. I used my buddies Bridgeport mill and machined 3/4" hole where the tapered hole once was. I also milled off 3/16" off the thickness to compensate for the two ends of the steel insert I made to make the tapered hole go the other way. I soda blasted the whole spindle assembly and shortened and threaded the Camaro tie rods another 1/2". This gives me enough adjustment for the correct toe in.
I ran a full machine shop in my younger days working with my dad, I loved running the Bridgeports making my own and custom parts , 6 years modifying, designing, rebuilding and trouble shooting Pneumatic, Hydraulic , Mechanical and combination of all... I wish I had a full shop at home... Id be dangerous....LOL I was 25 here
Lasater, Love the build, its awesome , great job ! I do have a question, when you pulled your dash apart How did that passenger airbag come out ? Im having difficulty trying to get it out and not tear up the dash.

There’s a few nuts that are reached through the removed glove box opening.
