Yes, I'll admit to owning one a , it was a 74 GT - , remember the Gas shortage back then, use to get maybe 23MPG and thougth that was good. It was fun to drive then, now I don't think my older back could ride in one for long today. I could beat my buddy's fairlaine off the line with it. The HHR is faster and rides better than a cadilac compared to the vega.

Heh, I'll admit to having one!

My wife and I had a '71 Dodge Charger 440 Six Pack that we bought new. I had a company car so she was the primary driver.

Then along came the '74 "gas crisis".... She saw a '74 Vega GT that she liked, so we got it. We put a suspension kit in it and autocrossed it. Did well at that, but otherwise we both thought it was a piece of sh*t! We only kept it about 6 mos. before getting a '74 Datsun Z. Now that car is another story!!

I actually owned a few. I put a 350 with a munci 4 speed and camaro rear end in my blue GT coup and did the same to my vega panel. Both cars were stupid quick.

We had a 1949 Chevy pick up that we all learned to drive in. We called it "The Initiator" We also had a 1959 Chevy Impala. We did have a 1962 Chevy Corvair convertible for a short amount of time until my older brother wrecked it. Painful day that was. I think I had a cousin that had a Vega at one time.

I had a big block Camaro, with the engine out of it, when I ran across the Vega GT. Wanting a good gas mileage car at the same time I was building the new 396 for the Camaro, I paid a guy down the street from me $200. He had the block sleeved and rebuilt it but coudn't get it to run. It had a header and aftermarket Holley. I pulled it home checked some basic stuff then found he had dropped the distributor in without findind TDC. I had it running in no time and then the guy I bought it from got pissed at me for getting it running without really having to do anything. Needless to say he didn't get it back. Anyway, that little red with black stripe GT would chirp the tires in all four gears. With a sleeved block I never had any of the problems associated with the earlier aluminum blocks.

Back in the early '70's I was drag racing a '68 Firebird Spring. I saw a Cogsworth at our local Chevy dealer but it was out of my price range, as I remember.

I never had one, my first vehicle was a 78 Chevy truck, short/wide bed with a 350 and turbo 400 auto transmission. It wasn't long before I blew the engine and my dad's mechanic (dad had heavy equipment) built me an engine for it. He use to race dirt track and took one of his engines and put it in. That thing would fly. I don't recall what all mods it had at this point, but I remember it was way high compression and I couldn't buy regular gas to run in it. I had to either go to Superfuels or buy Morosso Octane to add in. Though I never had a Vega, my best friend growing up had a Vega wagon. He cut the back off of it and made a truck out of it. We had so much fun in that lil ride. I don't recall what engine it had in it, but it would chirp the tires through all four gears.... those were the days......

I got a 68 Firebird from my brother in 72. He had blown up the 350 when I got it. I worked on it all winter and changed it over to a 400/4speed car and had it ready by the time my Senior Prom rolled around. It was a fun car although I don't think I could ever be inspired to work on another car in the wintertime, outside. Man, I remember laying on the frozen ground while installing the muncie. Young and not knowing any better, I guess.

I bought my second new car and it was a Chevy Vega. I think that may have been their last year to be made, produced or hatched. It was metallic green, more iron in the engine and a stick.

Okay, I'll admit I drove a Vega for about 2 weeks. I didn't have all of the parts for my Camaro engine and I needed a car to drive. My mom said, take the Vega (one of the shop cars). It was tomato soup red/orange and when you got up to about 60 on the freeway, it smoked like a chimney. Huge fog bank behind you.
When my sister blew the engine in the LUV truck, though we did put a 350 in it. That was a lot of fun to drive, unlike the Vega.
