Warranty Work

I was just wondering, I hope to receive my new HHR in the next couple of weeks. I know the dealer has the build sheet and a VIN for the vehicle so it should be in shortly. But my question concerns warranty work. Over the past 10 years or so I have driven a Pontiac and a GMC so I have a good working relationship with my local Pontiac/GMC dealers service department. They tell me they can do my regular service, but they can't do warranty work. All warranty work will have to be done by a Chevrolet dealer. I am purchasing the HHR locally also so distance is not a problem, I just trust the people I deal with now. Does anybody know this to be true? Thanks.

Just curious...why do you think would they lie? Its them losing business and money. And yes its true as I have worked in car sales for 15 years GM considers its brands as seperate entities and as such..you couldnt take your Mazda to a Chevy dealer to get warranty work either. Good luck with the new dealer and your new car.

It is true. I am a parts manager at a Chevy Cadillac dealer and the only way that a dealership can do warranty work on a GM brand that it doesn't sell is if they sold that vehicle used.

Warranty Work

Thanks guys. Didn't think they were lying, just seemed odd since so many of the GM cars are the same but with different brands. Looking forward to new HHR. Wish it was here.

I don't believe it to be true...but, you will probably get better service from someone that has experience with a particular GM model.

I used a Chevrolet dealer for warranty work on a Pontiac.

I used a Chevrolet dealer for warranty on an Olds (remember them).

I used a Buick dealer for the Olds

I used a Buick dealer for a Cadillac.

I'm using a Chevrolet dealer for a Chevrolet.

All were used as a matter of convenience and work quality...not as an emergency.
