I still hear a noise, almost like a cavitation whine, I think reusing the front cover gasket was a bad idea, the oil pump isn’t sealed.
I’m ordering a new gasket from RockAuto, hopefully that’s the problem.
So you think you're sucking in air somewhere around the front cover and it's causing oil pump variations?
Yes very much a possibility, if the gasket was compressed by over torqued bolts, the oil pump ports part of the gasket may not be sealing properly. The noise changes with engine speed between 1500 and 2000 rpm. I’ll post it up after I replace that gasket. Seeing as the water pump bolt gets torqued to 18 ft/lbs and the serpentine belt tensioner bolt gets 37 ft/lbs, possibly just tightening the lower 5 or 6 cover bolts will cure the problem
Hope you all had a Good Christmas and a Good New Years Eve.
Winter has arrived in Maine :O 8" of snow the other day but we are in the high 20's and 30's :)
Took my HHR for a ride today as it has sat a couple days. Will put in the LED's when they arrive if temps are near 30*f
One of my daughter in laws is a nurse so she keeps us updated on Covid !
You all have a great day and stay safe
Today , I rolled out the coffee with the_shmoo, we tried his Torc Pro engine app on the BlackSwan, everything seemed just fine!
Thanks for the coffee! Next time it’s on me!
Yesterday, actually, it was a warmer afternoon then morning, so, I swapped out the valve cover gasket and the grommets, then tackled the front cover gasket, I removed the upper engine mount and the bracket for it that attaches to the engine, this way I could easily reach the upper bolts , and lower the engine a bit to remove the water pump bolt.
It clearly a matter of the old gasket being much thinner then the new gasket, after a few hours, I had everything reassembled and then started it up, no ticking noise or whine!!
Today, Sweetie will test drive the BlackSwan when she goes to her Mom’s to take her lunch, if she hears anything, it has to be serious, lol!
Thanks for the update Steve ! Even though I am no car mechanic I LOVE reading about repairs and what was done to fix them.. Good to have some insight when dropping the car off to a mechanic :)
On a side not changed all the interior lights to LED's, :) It was real easy if you do not over think it lol Lights not as white as I would like but the very mild bluish light grows on you lol
Funny how I never noticed the orange house lights or car lights, for years. :O When I switched the house lights to LED'S it took me awhile to get used to them, Now just plain love the LED'S
Next on the To DO list is polish the headlight lens as they are a little cloudy. I have a kit from Turtle wax but will wait till we hit the 40s or higher
It figures, today we have to roll out to the hospital , Sweetie had an appointment for a minor surgery, and we have a freezing rain alert, well, the new winter tires, handled the roads just like it was the middle of June ! No slips or slides, just firm handling.
Sweetie is home, everything is ok!
