What Did You Do To Your HHR Today?
Nothing on mine today, it became lawn mowing day as some rains are coming soon.
From looking at where they placed it, I would guess it was placed there to prevent the sheet metal from resonating (from car vibration or wind lift from the top side of the roof). Notice it's placed between the actual roof support beams, on the large unsupported flat areas. Maybe during testing it was "twanging" and this was their solution. The glue they used probably was mass-loaded to provide even more damping.

My daughters drove over from Binghamton NY to visit us (3 1/2 hr drive) with one of their HHRs. I took off the winter Blizzaks and put on new General Altimax RT43 all-season tires that I had mounted on the summer rims.
While I had the car on the lift, I like to check everything underneath. I grab suspension parts and shake them to see if there is anything obvious broken or loose. Everything was good until I got to the rear suspension. I grabbed one spring in each hand and shook. The passenger side spring was good and tight. The driver side was loose and moved around. The spring was broken near the base after the first coil. They are going home soon so I needed to fix it fast. Luckily, I had my old 2006 HHR sitting behind the barn for parts. Take off rear wheels, remove lower shock bolts, and remove spring (by prying a little). Repeat procedure in reverse for daughter's HHR. All is good now.
I also had Oldblue(the car) sitting next to the barn for parts, but I thought I remembered that Oldblue (the man) put lowering springs in the rear, so that wouldn't work right unless I replaced both springs.
