So the intake balance shaft bolt wasn’t tight, that took out the timing chain front guide.

I foung the timing chain guide damage when I removed it the get the bolt and gear out.
No other damage found AND I will recheck all torques upon reassembly.
I did notice the engine vibrating but I thought it was something else.

Yeah, and those shards from the front guide are a little plastic wrenches in the works.

Did you know that the balance shafts cannot be removed while the engine is in the car?
Due to the loosened gear rattling around, the shaft end got a little beat up.
Looks like I get to hand finish the parts so that the gear can be reinstalled, AND TORQUED.
I did that kind of work while building turbine engines at Garrett/Honeywell.
But that is a job for a Saturday.
After that, all that is left is the finishing up.

Don’t forget a drop of blue loctite!

Today a ride to get groceries, then in a few minutes, new front brake rotors and pads, install the winter tires and plastic fantastic 2LT rims! I’m even changing out the front grille, the red light be is going back up front!
